Frequently asked questions

Can I build all five layouts with one kit?

The five shapes above are planning examples, not a confirmed feature of every Gardout bed. A modular kit can only be assembled into layouts supported by its supplied panels, hardware and bracing. Check the model-specific configuration chart before ordering. One kit makes one bed at a time.

Which height should I choose for my garden?

Start with the space available, your preferred working height, the crops you want to grow and the amount of soil you are willing to add. A taller bed reduces bending but generally needs more growing media and creates more soil pressure on the walls. Confirm the actual height options and internal soil depth for the selected Gardout model.

How much soil will I need?

For a rectangular bed, estimate soil volume in cubic feet as length (ft) × width (ft) × fill depth (in) ÷ 12. For example, an approximate 6 × 4 ft footprint filled 17 inches deep would require about 34 cubic feet (1.26 cubic yards) before adjustments. Rounded corners, fill level and settling change the actual amount. Use the soil calculator above for a starting estimate.

What type of soil is best for a raised garden bed?

Use a loose, well-draining raised-bed growing mix with mature compost and enough mineral soil to support vegetables and herbs. Avoid filling the entire bed with dense, compacted native clay or with drainage-blocking layers. Soil needs vary by crop and climate; local extension advice can help you fine-tune the mix.

Does the metal raised garden bed have a bottom?

The ground-level concept shown on this page depicts an open-bottom bed. Please check the exact Gardout product specification to confirm whether the selected kit includes a base. Open-bottom beds placed on soil can allow root contact with the ground and drainage through the underlying soil.

Can I put it on concrete, pavers or a deck?

Possibly, but plan for soil containment, water runoff and the final filled weight. An open-bottom bed placed directly on paving may release soil and stain the surface unless a suitable drainable base is used. For decks or balconies, have the structure’s load capacity checked before adding soil and water. Never block drainage with a fully sealed liner.

Is the metal suitable for growing vegetables and herbs?

Suitability depends on the exact steel, protective coating and hardware used in the product you buy. Gardout should publish verified material specifications and any relevant third-party test results before using claims such as “food-safe,” “non-toxic,” or references to specific standards. Ask for the model-specific documentation if it is not yet shown.

Will the metal sides get too hot in summer?

Metal surfaces can warm in direct sunlight, especially darker finishes. Soil temperature is also affected by bed volume, irrigation, mulch and local weather. In hot conditions, monitor soil moisture, use mulch and water appropriately. Avoid assuming that every metal bed stays cool in every climate.

How long will the bed last? Will it rust?

Durability depends on the verified steel grade, coating system, installation, climate and care. Keep the bed draining freely, avoid damaging protective finishes and inspect connections periodically. Specific lifespan, corrosion-resistance comparisons and warranty lengths should only be stated when supported by Gardout’s actual product and policy documents.

How do I assemble the bed, and do I need tools?

Follow the instructions for the exact kit and chosen layout. Typically you would choose a level location, join the supplied panels and braces, fit the edge treatment if provided, and check all connections before filling. Required tools and realistic assembly time depend on the model; the product page should link to its verified manual and video.

What comes in the box? Can I attach trellises?

Your order should include a model-specific packing list showing each panel, fastener, brace, edging piece and any supplied tools. Soil, plants and accessories are not included unless explicitly stated. Trellises or extensions should only be fitted where Gardout confirms compatibility and provides the necessary support or anchoring instructions.

What if my delivery is damaged, or I need a return or replacement part?

Check the destination-specific shipping estimate and published return and warranty terms before ordering. If a parcel arrives damaged or incomplete, keep the packaging, photograph the box and affected parts, and contact Gardout support with your order details. Resolution options, return costs and warranty coverage depend on the actual published policies for your country.
